MIT Health Plans

MIT offers a variety of health plans to meet the needs of every member of the MIT community. Members of every MIT Health plan can get healthcare services at MIT Medical.

MIT Student Health Insurance Plan (MIT SHIP): MIT Student Health Insurance Plan (MIT SHIP): Full-time students are automatically enrolled in MIT SHIP, which provides comprehensive coverage and meets state health insurance requirements. They may waive this coverage with comparable insurance. In addition to students, other MIT-affiliated individuals may be eligible to purchase MIT SHIP coverage.   
 
MIT Graduate Student Dental Plan: The MIT Graduate Student Dental Plan is available to all MIT graduate students enrolled in a degree-granting program.

MIT offers three health insurance options for employees, the MIT Traditional Health Plan, the MIT Choice Plan, and the MIT High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP). All three plans allow you to receive care at MIT Medical.

MIT retirees are eligible to receive their care at MIT Medical. Retirees younger than 65 are eligible to enroll in one of the three MIT employee health plans or in the Blue Care Elect PPO. Retirees 65 and older may choose between two Medicare supplemental plans offered by MIT.
