Retirees and family members: Welcome to MIT Health

You may be retired, but you’re still a part of the MIT community, and you and your family members are welcome to continue seeing the providers you know and trust here at MIT Health.

If you’re younger than 65, MIT offers you the same health plan options as active employees, so your out-of-pocket costs at MIT Health will be the same as it would be for an active employee with the BCBS MIT PPO+ Plan or the BCBS High Deductible Health Plan.

If you’re 65 or older, unless you have selected a Medicare HMO for your coverage, Medicare will pay the specified percentage of all covered services at MIT Health and will bill your supplemental insurance for the balance of what is owed. You should receive no bills other than your insurance premiums and Medicare deductibles

However, if you receive a service that is not covered by Medicare, you will be billed for 100 percent of the charges for that service, and you will have to pay the entire cost out of pocket. In addition, MIT Health does not participate with any Medicare HMO plans. If you have selected a Medicare HMO for your coverage, you will be charged in full for any services you receive at MIT Health.
